Football Tournament

On Wednesday 20th May Stockland Green PE department took fifteen Year 7 and 8 boys and girls to compete in a regional football tournament at the new home of English football, St George’s Park.

All the students were a real credit to the school and both won their respective tournaments!!

The boys did not lose a single game.  They won every group stage game and the semi-final, against tough opposition, before winning the cup final 3-2.

The girls, under the excellent guidance of Mr Morton came third in their group stage and qualified for the ‘Shield’ knock out stages final .  They then successfully went on to win their final 1-0!

Leif Ward really helped the girls and scored 4 goals.  Well done Leif

It is  a brilliant achievement for all the students, especially the girls who only started playing together eight weeks ago.

A great end to the half term for football at Stockland Green

Netball Success at Stockland Green School

Our Year 9 and 10 students were successful in coming third in the KSSP Netball Tournament at Great Barr School last week.

A Year 7 and 8 netball competition was also held at Stockland Green School on Wednesday 6th May.  Twelve of our young leaders led the entire event; from umpiring, scoring, timing and officiating.

Similarly, the Year 7 and 8 netball team have copied the  older girls and have also been successful in securing the Bronze medal in the KSSP Netball tournament.

We held the competition here with a crowd of parents and other students from our netball club all supporting.  The girls did the school proud as they fought till every last whistle to get the ball and score.

A special well done to Tiawana Huntley, who played exceptionally well in every game, by getting several interceptions and stopping the opposition from scoring.   She played very well against the Goal Attack from Perry Beeches who was very tall and physical.  She held her ground and played her heart out.

It must be a sister thing, as Loshawnte Blake umpired half of the matches and had some very positive comments about her confidence, knowledge of the game and her authority on court by parents and staff from other schools. S he showed the other schools the quality of leadership we expect and she enjoyed every second if it knowing that she was in control and that it was helping  towards her leadership qualification in her PE GCSE.

A very positive evening all round.

The Brilliant Club

What is The Brilliant Club?

Stockland Green students have had a real opportunity over this term to be involved in the 'The Brilliant Club'.  This is an award winning charity that seeks to increase fair access to highly-selective universities. It  is a national programme which currently works with over 5,000 students in 200 schools across the country and 20 of the top third of universities in the UK!

This is a Scholars Programme with a focus on developing advanced skills including independent study, critical thinking and communication skills; enabling students to reach their maximum potential in English.  The programme is designed to replicate the university experience and consists of a series of six university-style tutorials, two study skills workshops and a final assignment.  The tutorials will typically be delivered once a week during school hours, by a PhD tutor from a selected University.

On Saturday 16th May twelve of our students, who have completed an extended final assignment that had challenged them to work above their current key stage, together with two members of our staff had the privilege of attending a graduation event at the University of Nottingham.   This involved a tour of the campus, a study skills session and the chance for the students to meet and ask questions of current  students and admissions staff at the university.  During the day they also took part in a formal certification ceremony where they received a certificate to acknowledge and celebrate their achievements on the programme.  Parents were also invited to this special event.

It was a very proud day for students their parents and of course Stockland Green School

Sponsored Silence raises money for Comic Relief

Ssssshhhhh!!!!

One of our Year 10 students has recently raised money for Comic Relief.  Husen Mohammed raised £79 on Comic Relief day by doing a Sponsored Silence for a whole school day.

Husen said "I chose to do this miraculous sponsored silence because usually I can’t keep my mouth shut.  I really wanted to challenge myself.

Another reason why I did this was to prove all my teachers wrong, as they said it would be impossible for me to stay quiet all day!

I was really proud that I achieved my goal and that I raised money for those people that are in need."

From the staff at Stockland Green: "WELL DONE HUSEN"
