Year 11 Hospitality Events

As part of their GCSE in Hospitality thirty six Year 11 students have been working extremely hard to design and arrange a function.  They have been involved in the long process of designing and managing this event from start to finish.  It has given them a real insight into the world of event management and how to put on a function and the many tasks involved.  The students have developed their team building skills by working as part of a team of people to create and hold the event and evaluate it.  We have had six teams working on various events that will be taking place over the next two weeks

Watch this space for regular updates and photographs of what are definitely going to be successful events.

Thank you letters

The simple act of saying thank you is a polite demonstration of gratitude in response to an experience that is appreciated. We say these polite ‘thank yous’ every day, for instance, a thank you to the person who held the door open for you this morning, or a thank you to the person who prepared your favourite meal to cheer you up after a bad day. These simple acts of kindness are always followed by a gracious thank you- yet, it’s not very often we remember to really thank the people around us, who shape, influence and better our lives every single day.

Stockland Green’s Year 7 and Year 8 students took the time-out to do just this during Birmingham City University’s ‘Thank You Letter Writing Competition’. Whether their letters were for their parents, grandparents, brothers, sisters or even teachers, each letter was truly heart-warming and inspiring to say the least. Out of the hundred applications, four students were shortlisted for their exceptional writing skills. Ketshia Munira, Rosie Fencott, Ahmana Farooq and Owen Turner were each awarded a very generous £20 Amazon gift voucher, as well as a formal invitation to the Thank You Letter Awards Celebration Award Ceremony, taking place at The University of Birmingham on the 10th March, 11am-2pm.

During the ceremony, thank you letters will be displayed and contribute to the Gratitude Wall and winners of the national competition will be announced, with the prizes presented by a very special guest, to be revealed nearer the time.

We are sure our students will have a fabulous time and are very proud of their achievements- as we are too. Well done for your wonderful work and thank you for being outstanding assets to Stockland Green School.
