WWI Centenary Battlefields Tour 12th – 15th October 2014

Congratulations to two of our students who have been selected, with students from other schools in the West Midlands, to take part in a Government initiative to take these successful young people on a tour of the Battlefields during October this year.

Ahmed Tanvir and Hannah Usowicz had to submit a letter of application to their History teacher stating their reasons for being part of this exciting trip. Mr Leese the Head of Humanities, who will accompany Hannah and Ahmed said that they were chosen because their letters showed a real passion for History, in particular WW1 and also had some personal connections with the fighting in WW1.

Mr Leese went on to say ‘ Hannah and Ahmed explained what they would gain personally and socially from their experiences and how they could contribute towards the learning of themselves and each other. They were excellent letters’

Through this programme students will be able to develop a personal connection to the First World War through interacting with the battlefield sites, participating in remembrance ceremonies, record, reflecting and sharing their own experiences.
