Kickboxing Champions

Stockland Green School is very proud of our very own Kickboxing Champions, brother and sister Neve and Corben Henderson

They have been doing kickboxing for two and a half years now with Saxon Kickboxing Academy in Erdington.

They train really hard for four hours a week but that goes up to around eight hours a week during the six week fight camp which runs up to the fights.   However, Neve accepted her English title fight with only two days notice, which showed real dedication and determination.   They both regularly spar with English, European and World champions and the sport has taken them all round the country to fight.

Corben has come 1st in his weight category twice in the English Open Championships and has qualified to fight for England later this year in Spain.

Neve has just become English Champion at Kick Boxing.  She will be fighting again at the end of the year to become British Champion.

They are both very dedicated to their training and always find the energy to go even after a busy day at school.

They are both purple belts and will be grading for blue belts in June which is already a massive achievement.
Well done to Neve and Corben

Daniel Caines Visits Stockland Green School

Stockland Green School students had the privilege this week of spending the day with the former world indoor 400m champion and Olympic finalist Daniel Caines.  The former Olympian came in to work with a group of our Year 10 students as part of the Sky Sports Living for Sport project which aims to boost confidence, change behaviours, increase attainment and improve life skills.

The project at Stockland Green School involved the students planning and delivering sports sessions to Year 7 and 8 students which were of a high quality.

PE teacher Mr Wiedeman said 'All the students should be exceptionally proud of themselves, they have worked extremely hard this half term and have become really positive role models to our younger students'.

The former indoor world champion spent the day mentoring the students who were part of the project and they learned key skills such as mental toughness, people skills, sports and life knowledge as well as the ability to plan for success.

This was a truly inspirational day for all involved in the project and a fantastic reward for the hard work of the students at Stockland Green school.

Lunar Eclipse at Stockland Green School

It was perfect weather conditions for some of our Year 10 students to photograph this exciting event.

Our Science balcony on the top floor of our building was the ideal venue to set up photographic equipment and give the opportunity for some staff and students to see this spectacle.

The photographs taken were outstanding as you can see below.  Well done to Kiranjit, Courtney and Demi.

Where were you at the last solar eclipse?

In March 2015 we were at Stockland Green School.  Such an exciting experience and a perfect time to watch the sun smile.
