Stockland Green School students had the privilege this week
of spending the day with the former world indoor 400m champion and Olympic
finalist Daniel Caines. The former
Olympian came in to work with a group of our Year 10 students as part of the
Sky Sports Living for Sport project which aims to boost confidence, change
behaviours, increase attainment and improve life skills.
The project at Stockland Green School involved the students
planning and delivering sports sessions to Year 7 and 8 students which were of
a high quality.
PE teacher Mr Wiedeman said 'All the students should be
exceptionally proud of themselves, they have worked extremely hard this half
term and have become really positive role models to our younger students'.
The former indoor
world champion spent the day mentoring the students who were part of the
project and they learned key skills such as mental toughness, people skills,
sports and life knowledge as well as the ability to plan for success.
This was a truly inspirational day for all involved in the
project and a fantastic reward for the hard work of the students at Stockland
Green school.
